New Events Center in Enid
The city of Enid unveiled it's state of the art $18 million dollar new events center in a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday. The 74 thousand square foot building can hold events for just under 4000 people and has a 33 thousand square foot event floor. "The building is very versatile and flexible," Keller Taylor, the General Manager of the building said. The event center will host sporting events, concerts, consumer shows, community and private events, "We will host anywhere from 65 to 85 events this first year," Taylor said.
The building comes just a few years after Enid voters rejected a $40 million dollar bond proposal that would pay for it, "Yes, that was voted down, but the city (already) had $20 million in it's budget for the center.. so we said we will do a $20 million dollar facility," Said Steve Kime with the City of Enid. According to Kime, just over 40% of Enid's sales tax revenue comes from non-residents, and capitalizing on those dollars is a win-win for homeowners. "I believe it will create a lot of pride within the community," Kime said.
The event center sits next to the Enid Convention Hall, a new building finished last year that will hold banquets, meetings and special events, "We are preserving a downtown, investing in our downtown," Kime said.
According to city leaders, the two buildings will help bring Enid to the next level, and a hub for Northwest Oklahoma, and said a Hilton hotel is expected to break ground in the area, within the next thirty days.
