Summary: Convergence Design is teaming with Henderson Engineers to create a pirate fort on the grounds of Powell Gardens, Kansas City's botanical garden.
Powell Gardens, Kansas City's botanical garden, is hosting an exhibit this summer called "Fairy Houses and Forts," with seven special structures constructed by local artists and designers. Convergence Design has teamed with Henderson Engineers Inc. to develop "Skeleton Island," a mysterious hideaway on what was formerly known as Goose Island at the Garden.
Skeleton Island will lead visitors on a treasure hunt past a sunken ship, through an elaborate fort constructed by pirates, and to a treasure chest filled with treasures that can be found at Powell Gardens. The fort includes a deck with cannon and pilot's wheel, and a lofty crows nest lookout. The entire fort is constructed of recycled wood obtained through a generous donation by KCP&L. All the wood in the fort is milled from recycled utility poles.
